Imagine being ready for surgery, only to be sent home because your nerves pushed your blood pressure and heartrate too high. It happens more often than you think. Around one third of cancelled operations are caused by excessively high blood pressure or heart rate and the consequences are real: cancelled operations, less effective treatment and ineffective deployment of staff. Our portfolio company VRelax found a surprisingly simple answer. 🙌

Thanks to Marieke and her team, patients can experience a calming VR environment for around ten minutes, right before a procedure. That is all it takes. It works preoperative, but also in mental healthcare settings, where helping patients stay calm makes all the difference for everyone in the room.

As one care professional puts it: "𝘝𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘹 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴' 𝘢𝘯𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺. 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘳, 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘧𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘴."

𝗜𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, 𝗩𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 €𝟭𝟭.𝟵 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀, and 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝟰𝟰 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆.

These numbers confirm our conviction from day one: investing in the right digital health solutions not only generates financial returns, but also helps keep our healthcare system affordable and accessible. More importantly, behind every number is a person. ❤️

And VRelax is not the only one in our portfolio making a difference. Our Impact in Progress 2025 report covers ten companies in full.
