OpenUp saved €10.5 million in avoidable healthcare and societal costs

More than 90,000 people in the Netherlands are waiting for mental healthcare, and over 62,000 of them have been waiting longer than the agreed maximum of 14 weeks*. For people with milder mental health issues, the barrier to seeking help is often too high, resulting in avoidable sick leave. This is exactly what our portfolio company OpenUp is here to fix. 🙌

OpenUp gives employees direct access to mental health support through their employer: self-help tools, mindfulness, webinars, and one-on-one sessions with psychologists. No referral, no waiting list, no hurdles.

In 2025 alone, OpenUp:

❤️ saved €10.5 million in avoidable healthcare and societal costs by supporting people before problems escalate
❤️ freed up 17.5 FTE of GGZ capacity
❤️ 83% of employees experience improvements in their well-being

These numbers confirm our conviction from day one: investing in the right digital health solutions not only generates financial returns, but also helps keep our healthcare system affordable and accessible. More importantly, behind every number is a person. As one user puts it: "𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘜𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘳, 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘥. Our Impact in Progress 2025 report covers ten companies in full. Together they prevented €88.3 million in avoidable healthcare and societal costs in 2025 and recovered 1,015 full-time care workers' worth of capacity, with every number substantiated. Download wthe public version below.
